YEREVAN. – The concessions on Karabakh could have bad consequences for the parties, Russian political analyst Alexander Krylov said during Yerevan-Moscow video conference.

The idea on the need of preparing Armenian and Azerbaijani societies for peace could hardly be implemented without consequences for the Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities.

“Peaceful solution of the Karabakh conflict is the most complex from all possible options, and this could have devastating consequences for the party that will make concessions. The Armenian and Azerbaijani societies are not ready for such developments,” said Krylov, senior employee at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Krylov added that a solution to the problem through international dictate can also have bad consequences, such a scenario that once happened in the Balkans in the 1990s.

Touching upon the decision of the Armenian authorities to send a group of sappers and physicians to Syria, the expert noted that this is a major breakthrough in contributing to stabilizing the situation in comparison with the passive reaction that occurred in the Armenian society during the persecution of Christians several years ago.

Referring to the history of the CSTO Secretary General, he noted that now it is not worth waiting for precise decisions.

“All processes related to the CSTO Secretary General are likely to be solved on the sidelines. The options proposed by Nazarbayev and Lukashenko were not implemented, and the introduction of legal changes proposed by Armenia is also being discussed,” the expert concluded.
