YEREVAN. – Last year, Armenia joined the cultural component of the European Union’s (EU) Creative Europe program, whose budget is more than one billion euros, according to Zhamanak (Time) newspaper.

“The program provides a wide range of opportunities for Armenia’s filmmakers, representatives of theatrical art and other representatives of the creative intelligentsia to apply to that fund for financial support.

“[Prosperous Armenia Party MP] Naira Zohrabyan, chairperson of the [Standing] Committee on European Integration in the preceding parliament, was formally engaged in coordinating the Armenian activities of Creative Europe.

“According to our information, after the [recent] snap parliamentary elections [in Armenia], Naira Zohrabyan was proposed by the EU to be involved in the Creative Europe program’s implementation by on behalf of the EU.

“EU representatives wish to ensure fairness as much as possible in the acceptance and approval of applications, and for that reason they want the public oversight to be as high a level as possible,” Zhamanak wrote.
