The US House of Representatives passed legislation Tuesday evening that seeks to bar President Donald Trump from withdrawing from NATO, should he wish to do so, RIA Novosti reported.

The bill passed by a 357-22 vote.

Even though the congress cannot officially ban Trump from leaving the alliance, it can block the respective funding.

The bill also affirms support for NATO and its mutual defense clause, for Montenegro’s accession, for US funding for the European Deterrence Initiative—against Russia, and for the goal that each member nation spend at least 2 percent of its gross domestic product on defense by 2024.

Trump can veto this bill, which, however, the Congress can still pass later on if it gets enough number of votes, and send it to the president for signing.
