YEREVAN. – The bills on providing compensation to the injured parties during the events that occurred in capital city Yerevan in March 2008 and the takeover of a police patrol regiment building in Yerevan in July 2016 will soon be introduced .

National Assembly Vice President Alen Simonyan informed about the above-said in a Facebook post.

He added that these proposed laws will be with respect to the law on the procedure for the calculation of time in Armenia, and they will enable the respective people save up to 10 percent on electricity payments.

On March 1 and 2, 2008 the then authorities of Armenia used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the presidential election on February 19, 2008. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes. But no one had been brought to account for these deaths, to this day.

And in protest of the then authorities, the Sasna Tsrer armed group took over a police patrol regiment building in Yerevan and held hostages, but later surrendered in July 2016. Three police officers, however, were killed during the two-week standoff.
