YEREVAN. – Cyprus and Armenia both suffered from Turkey's actions, defense minister of Cyprus Savvas Angelidis said during a press conference in Yerevan.

“Our duty is not to forget what happened to the Armenians, and we condemn the genocide. Cyprus was the first European country to recognize the Armenian Genocide back in 1982. And on 2 February, 2015, the House of Representatives adopted a law criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial,” the minister said.

Angelidis, who is on a visit to Armenia, said he had discussed regional security with his Armenian counterpart Davot Tonoyan.

“We believes that the Mediterranean region around Cyprus has to turn into the region of stability and peace,” he said and thanked Armenia for its position on the Cyprus dispute.
