YEREVAN. – The number of detainees in Armenian prisons is 2,266 people in the post-revolutionary period, and this is considerably less than in post-revolutionary Georgia.

Taguhi Ghazaryan, a member of the majority “My Step” Faction at the National Assembly of Armenia, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday. She noted this while summing up the results of a recent seminar that was convened in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, and which was devoted to the reforms in the justice system of neighboring Georgia.

In Ghazaryan’s view, however, clear mechanisms need to be developed in order to resolve the matter of employment for prisoners in Armenia.

“The issue of job placement is already resolved at the penitentiaries of Georgia,” the Armenian MP added. “And I would like to have that borrowed from them [Georgians].”

Taguhi Ghazaryan noted that the institution of granting pardon also was touched upon during this seminar.
