YEREVAN. – The European Union (EU) believes that the parliamentary elections in Armenia last December were the best in the history of the independent republic.

Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Head of the Delegation  of the EU to Armenia, stated bout the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, this voting was conducted at a high level and in line with international standards, and Armenia can be proud of holding a fair and transparent election.

Świtalski added, however, that this voting was not perfect and there were some issues which are reflected on in the election observers’ reports.

The EU ambassador said the work should continue and, as far as he can tell, Armenia intends to improve its election law.

But Piotr Świtalski said they were confident that this voting was an important phase in Armenia’s development, and that its partners have assessed it.
