As a Eurasian Economic Union member, it is important for Armenia that the ratification of free trade agreement between the Union and Iran is underway in the parliament, PM Nikol Pashinyan said during his official visit to Iran.

The agreement is likely to come into force during Armenia’s presidency of the Eurasian Economic Union, and it will open up new opportunities to boot trade turnover, he said.

Pashinyan underlined importance of cooperation in energy sector. He said it is important for the parties to agree on a gas price, as the Iranian side expressed readiness to increase gas exports.

“We hope that our representatives will hold effective negotiations in this regard,” he added.

Pashinyan said Armenia is ready to launch cooperation with Iran to act as a transit for Iranian gas. Establishment of the energy corridor is also of great importance both in terms of bilateral and regional dimensions and in broader terms.

“There is a political will to resolve these issues. Let’s hope that the process of negotiations will be successful,” Armenian PM said.
