YEREVAN. – Diplomatic representations of the Republic of Armenia (RA) should have been much more active in the matter of the ratification of the Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Naira Zohrabyan, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia, on Tuesday told about the aforementioned to reporters in parliament. She noted this while reflecting on the remarks that the CEPA ratification process has slowed down.

“There are European Parliament elections in May,” Zohrabyan noted. “It’s clear that the European countries that have not yet ratified the agreement will not leave the elections behind and think about ratification of the RA-EU agreement.”

The MP expressed a conviction, however, that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia should have been a little more active and proactive.

“I hope they [Armenia’s new ambassadors] will not continue the tradition of the predecessors when the ambassadors were not engaged in representing and protecting the interests of the RA, but in protecting their own business interests,” Naira Zohrabyan concluded.

The Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement was signed on November 24, 2017 in Brussels. At present, ten European countries have ratified this document.
