YEREVAN. – This draft of changes in the structure of the government has long been discussed, and we can record that it is primarily perceived among the public, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at Thursday’s Cabinet session of the Government of Armenia.

He stated this commenting on the package of bills on making amendments to the law on the structure and activities of the government and on making amendments and additions to several related laws.

“Our main task is to increase the effectiveness of public administration and relations with the [Armenian] diaspora,” he added. “But we will go in this direction with a balanced, calm process. [But] during this process we will not have personnel ‘slaughter;’ the ministries—with their positions—will be consolidated, which doesn’t mean that they will continue to remain like that.

“Yes, there will be [government job] cuts. But they will be with the evolutionary logic, and each and every public servant will get his chance; this evaluation process shall take place maximally objective.”

“The system of government [in Armenia] shall be such that it resolves problems,” Pashinyan added, in particular. “Therefore, leading specialists shall work and get a fitting salary; but it can’t be at once, but in phases.”
