NATO does not participate in the settlement of any conflict. This is what NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai declared during a March 11 press conference in Yerevan, commenting on the large-scale military operations that Azerbaijan has launched. According to Appathurai, NATO is interested in the maintenance of peace and stability in the region.

“This is important for NATO Member States and our allies. What inspires and rejoices us is the fact that the new government of Armenia is exerting new efforts in the political process for enhancement of the negotiation process,” Appathurai said, adding that NATO is also pleased with the fact that there is less tension on the line of contact.

Appathurai stated that NATO supports an exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“There is no military solution to this conflict, and this is the message that we want to convey to all the parties to the conflict,” he said.
