In Geneva, Switzerland, the Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, had a working meeting with Patrick Vial, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Director for Europe & Central Asia.

Among several other topics, they discussed also the protection of the rights of Armenian citizen Karen Ghazaryan, who has been sentenced to prison in Azerbaijan.

Tatoyan presented Ghazaryan’s parents’ and attorney’s concerns over his health condition, and raised the main issue with respect to Ghazaryan being returned to Armenia.

At the end of their talk, the parties reached an agreement on continuing the work with this and several other matters.

The Ombudsman of Armenia discussed these matters also with Claire Meytraud, Head of ICRC Delegation to Armenia.

Armenian national Karen Ghazaryan was captured by Azerbaijan last summer.

Even though this young man has mental disorders, this does not prevent Azerbaijani authorities from portraying him as a “saboteur.”

And on February 27, an Azerbaijani court sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
