YEREVAN. – NATO respects Armenia’s choice.

James Appathurai, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, on Tuesday stated the aforesaid at a conference in capital city Yerevan. The event was organized with the support of the French embassy.

The NATO representative congratulated Armenia on currently chairing the International Organization of La Francophonie, and the pacific processes in the country. 

Appathurai noted that the geopolitical situation of Armenia is complicated, and the region is important to NATO.

He stressed that NATO respects Armenia’s choice in choosing its allies.

Also, James Appathurai noted that they see no problem in Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union—which also comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—and cooperation with NATO, and that the latter believes that cooperation with this alliance increases the security of the region.
