Only the incumbent authorities should have been concerned about the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. This is what leader of the National Self-Determination Union party Paruyr Hayrikyan said during a March 12 press conference.

“There’s nothing new in the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The incumbent authorities had to be concerned about this statement, not everyone besides the authorities,” he stated.

According to the leader of the NSDU party, one of the provisions of the statement was against the change of format, that is, the Armenian authorities’ desire and initiative to have Artsakh become a party to the negotiations again.

Hayrikyan clarified the reason why he doesn’t consider the statement on bringing Artsakh back to the negotiating table an initiative. “If it was an initiative, after the revolution in Armenia, the authorities had to declare that Armenia will participate in the negotiations over Artsakh when Artsakh becomes a part of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is viewed as an Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.”

Hayrikyan claims that the Co-Chairs had to talk about establishing peace and stable and friendly and neighborly relations, but they talked about durable peace.

The political party leader also stressed the fact that Armenia has never had and does not have a clear-cut foreign policy strategy.

Hayrikyan added that after the revolution, the new authorities had to declare that Armenia’s foreign policy and the agreed documents are subject to review.
