Anti-corruption campaigner and attorney Zuzana Čaputová led Slovakia’s presidential election first round with 40.5 percent of votes, Reuters reported.

The ruling Smer party’s candidate, European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, was second with 18.7 percent.

These two candidates will run in the presidential runoff slated for March 30.

Despite having no previous experience of public office, Čaputová, 45, will take pole position for the second round of the election, as voters spurn the Smer party a year after the murder of a journalist sparked mass protests.
