The logic of the project with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia is to assist in the prevention of adverse effects of climate change.

Dmitry Mariyasin, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Armenia, on Monday said the aforementioned at Armenia’s Khosrov Forest State Reserve. He stated this and within the framework of the UNDP project on mitigation of climate change risks in Armenia through the development of the potential for the management of forest and field fires.

In his words, the funding for this project has been allocated within the framework of the Climate Change Window in the Russia-UNDP Trust Fund.

At the same time, he noted that this cooperation is part of a broader project which is administered by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia.

The UNDP resident representative in the country added that the Ministry of Nature Protection has a long-term and strategic vision for environmental policy, and thanked the ministry for its continued assistance.

Along the lines of the above-said project, 360 firefighters of Armenia have received special equipment and tools that are designed for hard-to-reach places during forest fires.

The total cost of this project is about $1 million.

The project was implemented by the UN, and fully funded by Russia.
