The settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is entering a new stage. This is what Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ruben Safrastyan said during a March 18 press conference.

According to him, Armenia’s leadership will need quite some time for that.

Touching upon the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, the expert stated that the Co-Chairs are just intermediaries and that the ultimate format and settlement depend on the parties’ positions.

“The statements of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs just record the facts. Based on the processes of the discussions on the Karabakh issue, it is safe to claim that we are in a major stage, the stage of reinterpretation. A new strategy for talks with Baku is being developed. This can take a long time and will require great efforts, especially if Baku continues the policy on the negotiations that it is currently leading,” he emphasized.

Ruben Safrastyan said the Four-Day Artsakh War of April 2016 was very important from the perspective of revision of the approaches to the negotiations.
