On 18 March, Yerevan State University hosted the presentation of the monograph “Hamshen in Armenian Manuscripts” by Associate Professor of the Chair of Turkish Studies at Yerevan State University Lusine Sahakyan.
Lusine Sahakyan said that one of the main motives behind the creation of the book was the fact that there are few studies on the Armenians of Hamshen and added that this entails Turkey’s distortion of historical facts.
“I particularly presented the map of Hamshen dating back to the 15th-17th centuries and indicating Armenian spiritual and educational centers. The studies, particularly field studies, showed that the population of Hamshen was primarily Armenian,” she highlighted.
Rector of Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan said that Lusine Sahakyan’s book is extraordinarily important amid the growth of academic interest in Hamshen-Armenians.
“It’s not easy to conduct such studies, but thanks to Armenia’s scholars, we have the opportunity to look at this issue from a different perspective. Yerevan State University did everything possible to publish materials devoted to this topic over the past years. As a historian and an Armenian, I highly appreciate this effort,” the rector stated.
Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University Ruben Safrastyan noted that this book serves as a good example for cooperation between the government and scientific circles and is a worthy response to the false propaganda of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
