Issues of regional significance were discussed during the visit of Armenia’s Premier Nikol Pashinyan to Iran. This is what Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ruben Safrastyan said during a March 18 press conference.

He stated that the parties had discussed issues particularly related to the possibility of becoming a transit country for the transfer of gas from Iran to Georgia.

“In addition, in regard to cooperation in the energy sector, the parties observed the opportunities for the opening of the Iran-Armenia-Georgia-Russia energy corridor and the transport-logistics corridor from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea. Implementation of all the projects require the two parties’ determination since the representatives of third countries like the US might try to exert pressure,” the expert emphasized.

Safrastyan stated that even though Azerbaijan also closely cooperates with Iran, this won’t stand in Armenia’s way of deepening partnership with Iran.

“I believe Armenia has great potential. Besides that, there are several sectors that are of mutual interest for us. If these projects are carried out, they will help make Armenia more significant in the region,” Ruben Safrastyan said.
