Placing Artsakh under the mandate of any country is absolutely unacceptable for us. This is what head of the Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Edmon Marukyan told Artsakhpress as he touched upon the extent to which the statement of former commander of the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Samvel Babayan on the solution to the Artsakh issue is acceptable (Babayan has declared that Artsakh has to be placed under the mandate of the Russian Federation).

“Overall, I don’t understand what it means to place an issue under the mandate of a certain country. I believe such conversations can simply make people feel desperate. In other words, we can’t ask another country to deal with this issue. This is absurd. As Bright Armenia Party has mentioned, the political party supports the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, and we find that bringing Artsakh back to the negotiating table is a major precondition. Consequently, we need to fight for that. We believe that the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination has already been enshrined by a referendum. Therefore, talking about placing Artsakh under the mandate of any country is absolutely unacceptable for us,” Marukyan particularly stated.
