In our most recent international affair, the Europeans betrayed us again, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in his address on Thursday.

Ayatollah Khamenei criticized the European partners of the JCPOA for having breached their commitments by not standing against the United States, Mehr agency reported.

“When Europeans act in this manner, what can we expect them? What has recently been said about the new financial channel they created is more like a joke. This is a sad joke, a nonsensical joke. Their duty is totally different from what they are suggesting to do. In our most recent international affair, the Europeans betrayed us again. We cannot expect them [to act appropriately],” he said.

He once again slammed the Sauid degime calling it a despotic, dictatorial, corrupt, tyrannical and dependent regime, and added that the western countries provide such a regime with nuclear infrastructure.

In July 2016 Iran and six mediators signed an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. According to the agreement, Iran had to provide access for the IAEA inspector to its nuclear sites, while the western countries would have to lift sanctions.

However, in 2018 U.S. President Donald Trump announced withdrawal of the United States and imposed sanctions against Tehran. The rest participants of the agreement are trying to preserve the deal. Europe proposed a special financial instrument for trade with Iran which will allow avoiding the American sanctions. It is supposed that the mechanism will come into effect by the end of this year.
