The Armenian public has the right to know about the activities of the National Security Service to a certain extent. This is what Director of the National Security Service of Armenia Artur Vanetsyan said during a discussion on the report on the course of implementation and achieved outcomes of the reforms during the March 22 session of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly.

According to him, 90-95% of the activities of the National Security Service is confidential, but due to the radical political changes that took place in Armenia in the spring of last year, the administration of the National Security Service deemed it necessary to carry out activities that will be more open and transparent for the public, but within permissible limits.

Vanetsyan particularly touched upon the issues related to corruption and assured that there are no longer widespread corruption phenomena in Armenia.

The director of the National Security Service emphasized that the Service will continue to lead an active struggle against such defective phenomena, regardless of which official commits this or that criminal act. “Corruption poses a serious threat to Armenia’s national security, and during the term of the former authorities, it was widespread and common in all layers of public life,” Artur Vanetsyan said.
