Chinese authorities have blocked three rivers after the chemical plant explosion to prevent polluted wastewater from entering the Yellow Sea, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment said Friday, RIA Novosti reported.

The ministry sent a working group to the site immediately after the accident. After on-site inspections, the team decided to block three rivers in the park to prevent the wastewaters from entering the Guanhe river, which flows into the Yellow Sea.

It was noted that most of the blocking had been completed.

The blast occurred on Thursday at the Chenjiagang Industrial Park in the city of Yancheng, in Jiangsu province at about 14.00 local time.  The blast has killed 62 people and injured more than 640.
