MATAGHIS. – Only traces of shells are reminding of the April aggression of 2016  in the village of Mataghis, Martakert region of Karabakh. The damage caused by the aggression has been almost restored.

In an interview with the correspondent Armenian News-NEWS.am, the head of village administration Zaven Avanesyan said that the roofs and windows of the houses were mostly damaged.

“Everything was restored. The school was damaged, it is fully restored now, the consequences are not visible at all. In addition, electric street lighting was provided. Houses of ten families were restored as well,” he said.

Zaven Avanesyan was the first and only wounded in the village as a result of aggression. About 3 o'clock in the morning, when the first shell fell on the village, Avanesyan was evacuating the villagers. The second shell hit his car.

“We were told to be ready for evacuation at any time. I decided to start evacuation after the first shell. I got into the car, the second shell hit it. I was taken to the hospital, but I remained on the phone, notifying the residents about the need to leave the village,” he said.

The opponent shelled the village trying to target hydroelectric power station which was located nearby.

The village old-timed, grandfather Dariel is resolute: “No one will leave the village. This is our land. Do we have to leave to make them happy? No way, this will never happen!”
