On 2 April, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to Armenia Mohammad Ahmad Haj Ibrahim.

As reported the National Assembly to Armenian News-NEWS.am, the head of the legislature stated that there are more perspectives for the deepening of the centuries-old and traditional historic and cultural relations between Syria and Armenia. Valuing the assistance and hospitality of the Syrian people to the survivors of the Armenian Genocide, the parliamentary speaker emphasized that Armenia could not turn a cheek to the current realities in Syria and extended a helping hand to the Syrians devastated by the war.

From the perspective of further deepening of bilateral ties, the speaker of the National Assembly attached importance to the role of inter-parliamentary partnership.

Congratulating Ararat Mirzoyan on being elected head of the legislature, Mohammad Ahmad Haj Ibrahim viewed the centuries-old Armenian-Syrian relations as not only friendly, but also fraternal. He expressed gratitude to the Armenian authorities for the humanitarian aid provided to his country and stated that the Syrian people highly appreciate this act.

The ambassador valued the role that the Syrian-Armenian community plays in Syria and in the strengthening of bilateral ties. In this context, the diplomat touched upon the plan according to which the restoration of Armenian churches in Syria has been incorporated in the government’s program.

Highly appreciating the existing close political and cultural ties, the parties emphasized the need to enhance the economic component in the relations and set aside agriculture, information technologies and education.

The parties also touched upon global and regional issues during the meeting.
