Armenian parliament will discuss compensations to citizens affected by March 1, 2008 tragic events, said Vice Speaker of Armenian Parliament Lena Nazaryan on Friday.

According to her, the document is of great socio-political importance.

“People who suffered during these events have been deprived of attention from the state for years and faced with serious social and psychological problems,” Nazaryan said.

She noted that the amount, procedure and conditions for receiving compensation will be determined by the Armenian Government’s decision

The draft law received a unanimous positive conclusion of the relevant parliamentary commission.

During the confrontation, the power - the opposition on March 1, 2008, 8 demonstrators and 2 employees of the Internal Troops were killed.

On March 1, 2008, the then authorities used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan. Eight demonstrators and two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes. 

But no one has yet been brought to account for these deaths.
