Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party wants to annul the results of the municipal elections held in Istanbul, writes Haberturk.

Based on the results of the March 31 elections, the Justice and Development Party scored a victory in most cities and states, but lost to members of the opposition in the key cities (Ankara and Istanbul). After that, the political party demanded a recount in Istanbul and Ankara.

The recount of votes in Istanbul is almost over, and even after that, member of the Republican People’s Party Ekrem İmamoğlu will assume the office of mayor, and he has already urged the Central Electoral Commission to confirm him as the new mayor of Istanbul.

Haberturk reports that the office of the Justice and Development Party has addressed the state election department in Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district with the request to annul the vote in the city since there had been illegal registration of voters.
