Second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s attorneys today finished filing the appeal against the decision of the Court of First Instance on extending the term of custody for another two months. This is what Aram Orbelyan, one of Kocharyan’s attorneys, told journalists at the Criminal Court of Appeal of Armenia on 5 April. The attorney informed that Robert Kocharyan has expressed his position on certain issues, but has yet to give his main speech.

“As Kocharyan stated, he has had more time to become familiar with the materials and is more aware of the circumstances related to the materials,” he said.

Today’s trial was postponed and set for 9 April at 14:30.

The attorneys expect Kocharyan to speak on 9 April.

Judge Armen Bektashyan of the Court of First Instance, examining the motion of the Special Investigation Service on extending Kocharyan’s term of custody, rendered a decision on remanding him on 14 March and stated that there was no substantiated doubt in the bribe ascribed to him. The court also found that there is no risk that Kocharyan will hide.

Kocharyan’s attorneys and prosecutors have appealed the court’s decision. Kocharyan is charged under part 1 of Article 300.1 and point 2 of part 4 of Article 311 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for overthrowing constitutional order and receiving a bribe in particularly large amounts.
