No talks will be ineffective so long as the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unsettled. This is what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told journalists on 8 April, touching upon his meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Vienna.

“The statement by the co-chairs and the foreign ministers stated that the meeting was held in a constructive and positive atmosphere. We all agreed on the text. Thus, it is safe to interpret it by saying that the talks will be ineffective so long as the conflict remains unsettled,” he said.

Touching upon the fact that Azerbaijan responded to Armenia's Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan's “new war for new territories” statement by saying that Armenia is aspiring for war, Nikol Pashinyan said the statement is not illogical and much less destructive at all.

“Armenia is telling Azerbaijan not to intimidate the country with war because we are not afraid of war. Armenia is the first country to support a resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict exclusively through peaceful talks. We have said that we will do everything we can to set forth the peace agenda, but nobody should get the impression that we are going to be afraid of the threat of war. Armenia, Azerbaijan and the whole region have to be afraid of war. In case of a war imposed on us, we will impose peace. The purpose of our war is going to be peace, and it is not going to be our war. We are not preparing to launch a military operation against anyone, but in case of war, we will impose peace,” the Prime Minister said.

According to him, there is no need to constantly talk about war. “When we talk about war, we stress the importance of the talks and our loyalty to the talks.”
