On 12 April, upon the proposal of Chief of Police of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) Igor Grigoryan, the Standing Committee on Defense, Security and Law Enforcement of the National Assembly convened a wide-format discussion to present the reforms of the Police that are underway and give answers to the public’s sector-specific questions.

Chair of the Committee Janna Galstyan stated that the meeting was organized in accordance with the agreement reached during the previous discussion.

Chief of Police of the Republic of Artsakh Igor Grigoryan talked about the activities of the Police in 2018 and touched upon the crime indicators, adding that the number of crimes dropped by 27 in 2018 compared to the number in 2017 and that there is no unrevealed crime based on the results of 2019.

Presenting the reforms under implementation, the police chief set aside the works aimed at improving passport services in regions and assured that there woudl be full access to the services in all regions of the republic in the course of two months.

Deputy Hayk Khanumyan’s recent allegations fired at police officers were also touched upon during the meeting. The parliamentarian provided details about his statement and stated that his statement was based on certain complaints and information at his disposal. Khanumyan welcomed the reforms made over the past months and recommended using the measures of parliamentary oversight to solve the current problems.

Police chief Igor Grigoryan expressed willingness to work with parliamentarians round-the-clock in order to ascertain the information and provide relevant solutions.
