Issues of resolving the situation in Karabakh was raised during the meeting of the Russian senators' delegation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko stated during the official visit to Baku.

“The position of Russia is consistent - there is no military solution to the problem, there is only a diplomatic way to solve it. Russia is doing everything possible in different formats to achieve compromise,” the Parliamentary Newspaper noted quoting Valentina Matviyenko.

Valentina Matviyenko informed that the topic was discussed by the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan during phone talk on April 2. On April 15, a meeting will be held between the FMs of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation and representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group, and the Karabakh issue is also on the agenda.

“The President stressed: Azerbaijan is the most reliable partner of the Russian Federation. And this must be confirmed by deeds. During the visit of Ilham Aliyev to Russia in September 2018, 15 new intergovernmental agreements were signed, and the presidents of our two countries met six times last year, ”added Matviyenko.
