The General Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Police of the Republic of Armenia has found a large amount of fake euros, reports the official website of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, according to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

On the night of 11 April, the General Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Police of the Republic of Armenia apprehended citizen of Yerevan Sargis Ananyan. Police officers received operative data according to which Ananyan was about to place a bet with fake euros at a bookmaker office in Yerevan.

According to preliminary data, Sargis Ananyan, along with persons yet unknown, realized 16 fake bills with a nominal value of 200 euros (a total of 3,200 euros) as fees for placing bets at a bookmaker office.

Through a personal search, police officers found 8 bills with a nominal value of 200 euros (a total of 1,600 euros). Police officers seized 46 bills with a nominal value of 200 euros (a total of 9,200 euros) from the storage room at his place of residence.

A criminal case has been instituted.

Investigation is underway for obtaining and keeping particularly large amounts of fake euros (a total of 14,000 euros) and realizing a part of it.

Sargis Ananyan is under arrest.
