The roof of Paris’ Notre-Dame Cathedral collapsed as a massive fire ripped through the structure, Reuters reported.
Earlier it was reported that s a result of the fire, the top part of the spire and the clock have collapsed.
The fire at one of the most famous buildings in the world - Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral -has broken out at around 18:50 local time. The fire is "potentially linked" to the renovation of the building.
French President and Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron and Edouard Philippe arrived at the scene, RBC reported quoting Le Monde.
According to TASS, the fire had engulfed new levels of the building and is now approaching its observation deck.
The deputy mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Gregoire, said the cathedral had suffered "colossal damages", and the emergency services were trying to salvage the art and other priceless pieces stored in the cathedral.
Notre-Dame's foundation stone was laid in 1163 by Pope Alexander III, and the cathedral was completed in the 13th century. It was the site of Napoleon Bonaparte's coronation as emperor in 1804. Every year it is visited by up to 13 million tourists.
