In relation to the incident recorded on 17 March at one of the military units in Meghri, 5 military servicemen and the commander of the military unit have been charged under the criminal case being investigated by the military prosecutor’s office of the garrison of Goris, and the commander’s term has been temporarily terminated, reports the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia.

“On 17 March 2019 at around 19:30, a group of compulsory fixed-term military servicemen at the permanent station of N military unit of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia refused to perform the duties of the day, voluntarily left the area of the military unit and returned to military service only two hours after the calls of the commander and the employees of the Military Police.

Based on the materials prepared in relation to the mentioned incident, on 25 April 2019, the military prosecutor’s office of the garrison of Goris instituted a criminal case under part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and forwarded the case to the 9th garrison investigative division of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

By combination of the evidence obtained through preliminary investigation, on 15 and 16 April 2019, 5 compulsory fixed-term military servicemen of the military unit were charged under part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for refusing to perform certain duties of military service, and delivery of the military servicemen to the command of the military unit for supervision was selected as a preventive measure against them.

On 16 April, in the same criminal case, commander of the military unit of the Republic of Armenia, Colonel R. S. was charged under part 1 of Article 375 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and a decision was rendered to select signature to not leave the country as a preventive measure against him.

In addition, the same day, the prosecutor rendered a decision to temporarily terminate the term of office of the accused-on-trial R. S.

Preliminary investigation of the case continues,” the press release issued by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia reads.
