YEREVAN . – The Theater Workers' Union and the European Union presented a performance “The Comedy of Pyramus and Thisbe” which is based on "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Shakespeare with the participation of the Armenian and European actors.

The performance was staged in the cities of Vanadzor, Gyumri, Gavar, Goris, Kapan and Yerevan. Eight actors were invited from EU member states to play with the Armenian actors, and each of them performed in his/her native language.

As mentioned by the head of EU delegation to Armenia Piotr Switalski, the performance has a symbolic meaning and shows that “we Europeans speak different languages, but we understand each other thanks to our common cultural values”.

“Shakespeare is a part of our common identity, and we can speak different languages, but can understand each other,” he said before the performance at Paronyan Theater in Yerevan.

Hakob Ghazanchyan who staged the play thanked the EU ambassador for this interesting experiment which helped in building a bridge for the development of cultural ties between Armenia and EU. He emphasized that the European actors were impressed by Armenia, in particular by Syunik region and Goris and said they would come back to Armenia with their families next year.
