The social network Facebook has acquired contact lists of about 1.5 million users without their knowledge, when they created new accounts, the Business Insider reported referring to the statement of the Internet giant.

“Business Insider has learned that since May 2016, the social-networking company has collected the contact lists of 1.5 million users new to the social network. The Silicon Valley company said the contacts were "unintentionally uploaded to Facebook," and it is now deleting them. You can read Facebook's full statement below,” the source said.

According to the publication, earlier experts in the field of Internet security found that the social network asks some users to enter a password from the email when trying to create a new account.

The publication found out that after the password was entered, a notification appeared on the screen about the “import” of the user's contacts, while the system did not ask permission to download the data.
