A symbolic wooden cathedral for tourists and believers may be built near Notre Dame during its reconstruction, France24 reported

Speaking to France's CNews television channel Monsignor Patrick Chauvet said: "We mustn't say 'the cathedral is closed for five years and that's it’.

He suggested: "Can I not build an ephemeral cathedral on the esplanade (in front of Notre-Dame)?"

Earlier, French President Emmanuelle Macron promised that Notre Dame will be restored in five years.

The fire broke out at around 6:30 pm Monday, and the roof, the clock and spire was damaged. According to preliminary reports, the fire started during the restoration works. The French authorities said large fire has been extinguished. Paris municipality will allocate 50 million euros for restoration of Notre Dame cathedral which was heavily damaged because of fire.
