French President Emmanuel Macron awarded medals of honor to firefighters, who saved Notre-Dame in the devastating blaze, in recognition of their "courage and devotion," TASS reported quoting BFM.

As it was noted, the French leader received 270 firefighters at the Elysee Palace on Thursday.

Earlier it was reported more than 400 firefighters took part in the nine-hour battle to save the 12th-century Notre Dame on Monday evening. 

The fire broke out at around 6:30 pm Monday, and the roof, the clock and spire was damaged. According to preliminary reports, the fire started during the restoration works. The French authorities said large fire has been extinguished. Paris municipality will allocate 50 million euros for restoration of Notre Dame cathedral which was heavily damaged because of fire.
