In response to a question about transitional justice from a Facebook user, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said the rapid application of mechanisms are risky because there might be cases when the solution to a particular issue will be a wrong solution.

“It can’t be introduced in one month or two or three months. They need to be considered in detail and undergo expert examination in Armenia and abroad so that we are certain that we’re on the right track. After all, don’t forget about the European Court of Human Rights. If Armenia sentences everyone now and applies transitional justice, later the ECHR will examine the cases, and if Armenia loses, the processes that had been launched will have to be launched again,” Pashinyan said and reminded everyone about the promise he had made before the elections to not take speedy actions.

Nikol Pashinyan also stated that the parliament will undertake the initiative so that the actions are balanced. He highlighted the fact that the government is taking steps in its turn. “Today the government discussed the bill on confiscation of unlawfully obtained assets, and this is a major element of transitional justice. So, take note of the fact that we are working on this.”
