YEREVAN. – Drastic changes in the foreign policy of Armenia are impossible. Head of the Modus Vivendi Center, political scientist Ara Papian, said this at a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, it is indispensable to create conditions and seek alternatives to change the course.

“It’s apparent that the Russian natural [gas] is [more] expensive for Armenia than in Europe, but we [Armenia] can’t immediately reject [it]; alternatives need to be created,” Papian said. “There are security issues. I myself don’t trust the Russian presence [in Armenia], but alternatives need to be created here, too.”

The political scientist recalled that he is a supporter of the pro-Western course and that he favored Armenia’s signing the European Union Association Agreement. In this context, Ara Papian noted that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also used to have pro-European views in the past.
