Sudanese public prosecutor has charged ousted President Omar al-Bashir with involvement in the killing of protesters, BBC reported

Omar al-Bashir, 75, was overthrown on April 11 after mass protests that lasted from December 2018. Security forces tried to disperse the protesters, but in the end, al-Bashir was forced to leave his post and placed under house arrest.

Large amounts of cash in various currencies were found in his residence, therefore, an investigation is underway against the ex-president on suspicion of money laundering and corruption.

Meanwhile, the protests in Sudan did not stop even after the power in the country passed to the military, declaring an emergency state in the country for three months. The ex-president had been treating injured protesters in his home in Khartoum when police fired tear gas into the building.

Omar al-Bashir came to power in 1989 after the coup. The International Criminal Court in The Hague declared him wanted amid committing war crimes and organizing genocide in the Sudanese province of Darfur. According to the UN, since the launch of the conflict in 2003, 300,000 people have died there. The new Sudanese authorities said they would not extradite the ousted president to the court, but would judge him at home.
