The US State Secretary Mike Pompeo tweeted that his visit to Russia will highlight a number of important topics.
According to him, “on some issues we may agree, on others we may disagree.”

This is the first visit to Russia by Pompeo as the head of the State Department. On Tuesday, talks are scheduled in Sochi with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for Russian President confirmed that Pompeo will also be received by the Russian leader, TASS reported.
In an interview to CNBC, Pompeo noted that during his visit to Russia he is going to discuss the situation in Venezuela, as well as will try to find the opportunities for interaction between Washington and Moscow on Afghanistan and Syria.
Earlier, Sergey Lavrov noted that one of the central topics at the talks in Sochi will be the prolongation of the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms. He also intends to find out from Pompeo how Washington plans to get out of the situation around the Iranian deal
