The Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia hasn’t carried out its constitutional function, that is, to ensure independence of a judge. This is what co-founder of Legal Way NGO Ruben Melikyan told journalists today, touching upon the expected response from the Supreme Judicial Council regarding the search conducted in the office of Judge Davit Grigoryan.

Ruben Melikyan mentioned that the Supreme Judicial Council hasn’t issued any statement on this yet.

He also touched upon Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent statement that judges are still seeking masters, even though there is no phone justice.

“If the government has tremendous potential and doesn’t make phone calls, but the police keeps vigil near the closed door of a judge’s office, one can make judgments. Besides that, where is the proof? If the government says there are no crimes and doesn’t submit evidence, it devalues its word,” he said.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am had reported that the office of Judge Davit Grigoryan of the Yerevan court of general jurisdiction, judge in the case of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and other ex-officials, was searched and sealed.
