Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan declares that the Russian-Georgian war of 2008 had a more negative impact on Armenia than the Four-Day Artsakh War. Based on the context, my understanding is that he is referring to the impact on the economy. This is what Vice-President of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan wrote on his Facebook page.

He particularly wrote the following:

“In reality, the war that took place in August 2008 caused a tremendous blow to Armenia’s economy in the short run and the long run. The physical and political obstruction of the northern transport corridors and disruption of the regional security environment had to have an impact on Armenia’s economy.

Let’s add the 2008-2009 global economic crisis and the atmosphere that was created in Armenia after the events of March 1, 2008, and you'll understand that the first term of office of Serzh Sargsyan was in a period in which Armenia’s statehood was undergoing trials and tribulations.

You'll understand the conditions and environment in which it was possible to reduce the negative consequences of those processes to a minimum and how several other threats were neutralized.

It’s just that back then, the incumbent authorities were intentionally escalating the situation and would speak ironically when we would say that serious damages have been caused to Armenia.

After all this, how can I not ask them why they weren’t talking during the term of office of Serzh Sargsyan?”
