In combination with sufficient evidence obtained in the criminal case being investigated by the Second Garrison Investigative Unit in relation to the death of fixed-term serviceman V. Galoyan, the senior officer of the military post has been charged with committing a crime as provided for by part 2 of Article 358.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and remand has been selected as a preventive measure for him, as reported the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am had reported that on July 23, 2019 at around 10:55 p.m., at the military post of the maintenance station of N military unit, in the area near the cabin of the specified military post, compulsory fixed-term serviceman, Private Volodya Galoyan opened fire at a senior officer of the military post with the AK-74 rifle attached to him, but Galoyan’s crime remained unfinished due to circumstances beyond his control.

Right after opening fire, Galoyan left the area of the military post with his AK-74 rifle, after which, on July 24, 2019 at around 04:20 a.m., his body was found at a distance of nearly 50 meters from the vantage ground of the military post, with a firearm injury in the lower part of his jaw, and his rifle was beside him.

Preliminary investigation of the case is underway. Necessary investigative and procedural actions are being undertaken to ensure comprehensive, full and objective examination of the case.
