An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred on Wednesday morning near the island of Crete, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported.
Tremors were recorded at 4.40 UTC. The epicenter was located 16 kilometers west of the city of Heraklion. The center of the earthquake lies at a depth of 80 kilometers.
Information about the destruction and the victims have not been received yet.
