I can’t imagine any official of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia telling journalists that there is definitely no corruption within the system, if asked a question about corruption within the system. This is what Head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Davit Ananyan told journalists today after he was asked if there are officials of the State Revenue Committee who take bribes and why it was not possible to exclude corruption within the State Revenue Committee after the revolution that took place in Armenia last year.

According to Ananyan, in certain cases, the State Revenue Committee uses its administrative resources for internal security, and the National Security Service performs its functions. Over the past month, Ananyan has called Director of the National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan on the phone and thanked him for revealing 2 cases of corruption.

“The State Revenue Committee will welcome any kind of assistance. We keep saying there is no systemic corruption, but we don’t want to say that anymore because there are certain cases of corruption that we have to fight against impartially and never stop fighting against them,” Ananyan emphasized.

In early July, the National Security Service had declared that the general inspector of the Territorial Tax Inspectorate of the Tax Operative Department of the State Revenue Committee had received basalt as a bribe, and a couple of days ago, the National Security Service declared that employees of the State Revenue Committee had demanded and received a large bribe in exchange of the nice way that the employees had treated a company dealing with the import and sale of diamonds. Criminal cases have been instituted.
