Minister of Defense of Armenia Davit Tonoyan received today representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) led by Head of the ICRC Delegation to Armenia Claire Meytraud, as reported the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current issues on cooperation between the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and the ICRC Delegation to Armenia, the actions on the agenda, as well as the potential and future actions to raise the level of effectiveness of the partnership.

The parties also touched upon the recent growth of escalation in the Nakhchivan sector of the Armenian-Azerbaijan border. Expressing her concern about the existing threats to the life, health and assets of civilians, Meytraud expressed willingness to implement, in partnership with Armenia’s relevant authorities, a pilot program aimed at reducing risks in one of the more vulnerable communities.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues on determining the destinies of people missing as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as issues on coordination of the activities of Armenia’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons and the ICRC.
