The Special Investigation Service of Armenia didn’t provide the BBC Russian Service with any information about the case regarding the events of March 1, 2008. This is what the Special Investigation Service reported to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“On July 4, 2019, the BBC Russian Service sent an inquiry to the Special Investigation Service with the request to specify some information about the case of the events of March 1, 2008, but on July 9, 2019, the Special Investigation Service told the Service that it couldn’t provide any information due to the interests of the preliminary investigation,” the news service of the Special Investigation Service reported.

Armenian News-NEWS.am asked the Prosecutor General’s Office if it will explore the circumstances in which the BBC Russian Service had confidential documents at its disposal, but the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that it has no comment.

On August 7, the BBC Russian Service released an article devoted to the events that took place in Armenia following the elections and the events of March 1, 2008. The BBC reported that it has an exclusive opportunity to become familiar with the materials of the investigation. According to the documents that the BBC has obtained, a group led by army general of Karabakh Samvel Karapetyan (Oganovsky) had fired at demonstrators during the events of March 1, 2008.

Samvel Karapetyan has the procedural status of an eyewitness in the case of overthrow of constitutional order on March 1, 2008.
