YEREVAN. – This year’s GDP indicator will be a quite solid number. The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Avinyan, on Friday stated this in a briefing with reporters. He noted this when asked whether the Armenian government will ensure a double-digit economic growth in 2019.

“Maybe not in the next two or three years, but a double-digit economic growth is realistic in the future,” he said. “[But] by saying double-digit economic growth, we shouldn’t just understand gross domestic growth, but our attention should be focused on the wellbeing of, social services to the citizens of the Republic of Armenia. This year’s GDP indicator will be a quite solid number—both in the region and worldwide.”

And when asked what steps the government is taking to ensure the 9.5% economic growth by 2050, Avinyan responded as follows: “Under the conditions of reviewing the deep reforms, inertial approaches will change over the next few years (…), when we will work directly toward developing human capital.

“When certain changes occur in the years to come (…), as a result of new demographic programs, I’m convinced that this will have its most major effects.”
